Francesco Giordano is a Spanish-Italian and queer photographer and visual artist living and working in Munich, Germany. He has dedicated himself to projects focused on LGBTQIA+ topics and migration.
Francesco uses photography to highlight societal themes by creating more visibility for marginalised groups and queer issues. He loves to experiment but the most important aspect in his artistic approach is to portray his protagonists with pride and dignity and to challenge the boundaries of documentary photography. With a background in design studies, where target groups, comprehensibility and sustainability have an importance, Francesco's conceptual work also focuses on accessibility and inclusivity.
In addition to his work as a photographer, Francesco also operates as a curator, a community organiser and creative artist. In his collaborative projects, these roles all come together by putting on interdisciplinary exhibitions and events in public space: In Rainbow Refugees (Stories) (2019), 377. Inside India’s Queer Community (2020) and queer:raum (2022) his goal is to bring people together, to create a stage and to find collaborators in society that help him to initiate awareness. Francesco is inspired by diversity, the cohesion of communities and their striving to improve society.
Francesco's current project, Mit Euren Spuren (2023), aims to create a bridge between queer photographers and LGBTQIA+ seniors. The result will be a photography exhibition in June 2024 showcasing portraits and conversations between the generations. The project explores themes of queer struggles past and present, the loss of biographies, when there are no descendants and the rising importance of chosen families. The project is a cooperation with the photographers Stella Deborah Traub, Florian Tenk, Joseph Wolfgang Ohlert, Mara Fischer und Teo Ana Apostelescu.
