Queer Artists Munich (2024)
The photo project presents a series of portraits of queer artists living and working in Munich. It serves as a thematic continuation of a series that I realized in 2021-2022.
As diverse as the personalities shown are the fields in which they express their artistic creativity. The spectrum ranges from visual and performing arts to dance, and drag, as well as literature, music, film, and digital media art. Some of the artists have blurred the boundaries of these forms of artistic expression, combining them in their interdisciplinary approach or exploring them anew.
I have not only captured my encounters photographically but have also engaged in extensive conversations with the artists about their creative work, their relationship with Munich, the local LGBTQIA* community, and their definition of being queer, documenting these conversations in the process. The resulting portraits depict artists who are at different stages in their professional and personal journeys, offering a variety of perspectives on Munich and queer life in the city — and enriching it with their voices.
A project by the Department of Arts and Culture of the City of Munich.
